HREB Meeting Dates and Deadlines
All applications to conduct research with human participants MUST use the MOST RECENT application form and be submitted to the Human Research Ethics Board at HREB@twu.ca.
Applications from Trinity researchers MUST be managed through a Trinity email address (@twu.ca or @mytwu.ca).
There are no deadlines for minimal risk applications, but deadlines for submission to full-board review are strictly observed.
The class project deadline is strongly encouraged in order to allow sufficient time to conduct a research project within a single-semester time-frame.
Please see the information under Timelines for Review in order to include budget your time appropriately.
Minimal Risk Review
Does your research qualify as minimal risk? If so, you may submit your application to the HREB at any time.
Check the Reviewer's Guide for minimal risk criteria and contact the Ethics Compliance Officer if you have any questions.

Timelines For Review
All of the applications that come to the HREB are reviewed by full-time faculty members who volunteer on the HREB.
Most correspondence related to a Full Board Review is sent out within two weeks of the meeting. Applications that meet the criteria for Minimal Risk projects typically take three weeks from submission to response. Amendments, renewals, and replies to provisos typically take 1-2 weeks, although very minor amendments may be approved within a day or two.
If your application is incomplete or requires revisions because required information is not provided, your application will be queued in chronological order by submission date. To avoid undue delay, please complete the application carefully and thoroughly.
Notifications of Distribution and Approval
The Principal Investigator listed on the ethics application will be sent an email notification when the application has been distributed for review, and when the application has been granted approval.
Do not start research with human participants (done directly or through analysis of existing data) until you have received an email from the Human Research Ethics Board stating that your project has been approved. This includes the recruitment of participants.
